AP Entertainment Writer

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Russell Brand is returning to the MTV stage.

The network says the 36-year-old comedian will host the 2012 MTV Movie Awards next month.

Brand hosted MTV's Video Music Awards in 2008 and 2009, but this is his first time taking on the movie awards. His film credits include "Get Him to the Greek," ''Arthur" and "Rock of Ages," which hits theaters next month.

"The Hunger Games" and "Bridesmaids" top nominees for the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards, which include offbeat categories such as "best on-screen dirtbag." Fans can select the winners by casting votes online.

The 2012 MTV Movie Awards will be presented June 3 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif., and broadcast live on MTV and its international affiliates.
