San Francisco, CA (KRON/CNN) - This is what's left of the historic Pier 29 in San Francisco after a fierce fire ripped through the building Wednesday.

The fire department says the ceiling suffered the most damage.

You can see the charred timbers and one of many sections where the fire burned a hole thru the roof. Part of the structure's concrete facade gave way in the blaze.

On Thursday crews began demolition work on the fire-damaged sections of Pier 29. That's expected to take a few days.

Damages are estimated at $2.4 million.

Although the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, arson is not suspected.
