FAIRPLAY, CO (KUSA) - Many communities around Colorado celebrated Independence Day the old fashioned way. In Fairplay, the town folk celebrated in an unusual way.
They gathered at Fairplay Beach and conducted a rain dance with hopes Mother Nature would scatter some showers over Colorado's existing wildfires.
"We're just hoping to bring rain and thank the firemen so much for what they're doing for us," Criselda Miller said, who participated in the event.
More than 200 people attended the ceremony. It lasted about 25 minutes. Residents chanted a rain prayer and then participated in the dance.
Oddly enough, it rained before and after the event.
