Stonington, CT (CNN) -- A dead humpback whale was discovered off Connecticut's coast earlier today.

Here you see the animal's corpse on the beach near Lords Point in Stonington.

Rescue crews from the nearby Mystic Aquarium, and the Coast Guard, are trying to figure out how the animal died.

Marine officials planned to remove the whale sometime today.
