SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP/KSDK) - Voter turnout so far in St. Louis has been steady, but officials say they may not reach the 30 percent turnout they expected for the primary election.
Gary Stoff, Republican director for the St. Louis Board of Elections, said Tuesday polling places so far are reporting a steady flow of activity, but he says the pace isn't as heavy as anticipated.
Stoff says city election officials were expecting a good turnout, near the statewide forecast of 25 percent or above, because there are so many hotly contested races in St. Louis. But Stoff's expecting the overall turnout to be closer to 25 percent unless the pace picks up.
Many of the candidates were out Tuesday casting their votes and shaking hands with voters.
