Wenatchee, WA (KIRO) -- Homeowners in central Washington state watched as fire crept over the peak of a nearby hill and moved slowly toward their fenceline.

The Canyons Fire near Wenatchee threatened more than 200 homes, but so far crews have been able to protect the structures.

The weather forecast offers no relief and police say gusty winds could fan the flames of dozens of blazes.

Some of the fires in the state were sparked by lightning strikes.
