IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Investigators have charged a federal inmate in the 2005 killing of his fiancee's 5-year-old daughter in Iowa.

Authorities said Thursday that Casey Frederiksen has been charged with first-degree murder and sexual abuse in the death of Evelyn Miller.

They announced the development in Floyd, the town of 330 where the girl vanished from an apartment where she lived on July 1, 2005. Her body was discovered days later on the banks of the Cedar River after a search by volunteers and police.

Frederiksen lived in the apartment with Evelyn and her mother. He had claimed he was sleeping when the girl vanished. He's in federal prison on child pornography and methamphetamine offenses, which came to light during the search for Evelyn's killer.
