Mesa County, CO (KJCT/CNN) - Investigators in Mesa County, Colorado are looking into a tragedy involving two young children.

A dispatcher received a call, saying two children needed immediate assistance.

They were in a car on the side of the road near Grand Junction, but when authorities arrived at the scene, one child was dead.

Another, a four-year-old boy, was airlifted to the hospital.

Authorities say the vehicle had not been in a crash.
