ELLISVILLE, Mo. (KSDK) - The Ellisville City Council unanimously voted to suspend Mayor Adam and begin the process of impeaching him.
The council is accusing Mayor Adam Paul all kinds of abuses - from over reaching his authority to drinking on the job. But the Mayor's supporters say the charges are really retribution for Paul's opposition to Tax Increment Financing for a new Wal-Mart in Ellisville. They think council members want to kick the Mayor out of office before they are up for re-election in a few weeks.
On Tuesday, a judge allowed Walmart to apply for a permit to develop in Ellisville. Said permit would allow the construction and operation of a 50,000 square-foot general merchandise store, including space for additional tenants.
Some residents in Ellisville were opposed to allowing Walmart to build in the city. However, the proposal was approved the city council on September 5, 2012.
Meanwhile, the impeachment hearing for Mayor Adam Paul is scheduled March 20 at 7 p.m.
