ALBERTA, Canada (CBC/CNN) - A multiple vehicle pile-up in on a snowy stretch of highway in Alberta, Canada left an estimated 100 people hurt.

Witnesses reported seeing vehicles smashing into each other on Highway 2, as others flew into ditches and collided with other vehicles.

At least 200 vehicles were reportedly involved. Those with serious injuries were taken to area hospitals by ambulance, the rest were transported by bus.

The weather forced the shutdown of several roads and highways in the state.

About six inches of snow was expected to fall in the area on Thursday.
