Airline owner arrested for not paying health insurance premiums

KSDK -- An airline CEO and Missouri man has been arrested for failing to pay group health insurance premiums.

Authorities took Pace Airllines CEO William Rodgers of Liberty, Missouri into custody today at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Investigators allege that he knowingly terminated his employee group health insurance without providing the required 45-day notice to his 337 employees.

Additional charges are pending, and investigators from the N.C. Department of Insurance's Criminal Investigations Division are still seeking information from Pace employees.

Pace Airlines is an American charter airline based out of Smith Reynolds Airport in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It operates executive passenger and sports flight charters. Pace gained national notoriety in 2003 with the creation of Hooters Air, a charter flight service that featured Hooters waitresses on board. Hooters Air went out of business in April of 2006.

On September 11, Pace Airlines layed off most of its remaining employees. The airline was was forced to suspend operation for up to 90 days on September 17.
