Young woman dies at underground party

CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. (KSDK) – A young woman is dead and another almost died after an electronic music concert at the Crystal City Underground.

The victim's name has not yet been released. She died in the parking lot early Sunday morning.

The venue's owners say they were trying to make this the safest fun night they could.

"So many young people love to come to these events," Bob Kister said, who represents the owners of Crystal City Underground, said.

More than 4,000 people came to the party, and the owners say security was tight. The fun took a turn at 4:30 a.m. – just as it all ended.

He says paramedics tried to save the 23-year-old woman, but they couldn't. He says the other person who got sick is now ok.

Law enforcement sources tell NewsChannel 5 that it's not uncommon to find drugs at parties like this in Jefferson City.

Sheriff's investigators say they know more about what happened to the young woman after they get her toxicology results back. They haven't yet told us her name.

Last year, the sheriff said he was worried about safety here. The owners say they worked with detectives to put in police presence at this year's party.
