St. Peters, Mo (KSDK) -- A church known for protesting military funerals was expected to protest at two St. Louis-area schools Monday morning, but only showed up at one.

Dozens of counter-protestes were at Fort Zumwalt East High School as they waited for members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas. The counter-protesters had balloons and signs.  They organized on social media and will be raising money for organizations supporting veterans and the gay and lesbian community.

Attorneys for Westboro say a student emailed them and asked them to visit the school.  The attorneys said that student was commenting about how freely and openly the gay population could walk the hallways.

Westboro members failed to show up at Fort Zumwalt East.

Five or six Westboro members showed up at Clayton High this morning, so a separate group of counter-protesters was ready for their arrival.

The event was peaceful and was wrapped by 8:30 a.m.

The organizations at both schools say they want to make it a normal school day.
