DENVER (KUSA) -- The man who tried to throw glitter on Mitt Romney on Tuesday night says he doesn't regret what he did even if it could mean getting kicked out of college.

Denver Police have cited 20-year-old Peter Lucas Smith with "throwing a missile" and "unlawful acts on school grounds." The charges are misdemeanors.
Smith is accused of trying to "glitter bomb" Romney after he spoke on the Auraria campus on Tuesday night following the Colorado caucuses. "Glitter bombs" have been used by many to support gay rights.
9Wants to Know was able to interview Smith over the phone on Wednesday.
Smith says he was inspired by past cases of "glitter bombing" and the "statement" was in solidarity with gay rights groups and people who disagree with Romney's agenda.
"I was thinking about how intuitive the idea of glitter is," Smith said. "It's very visible to a camera. It is very hard to deal with at the moment, especially when cameras are rolling, and it causes no physical harm."
Smith says he was detained by Secret Service agents and placed in handcuffs while being threatened with the possibility of expulsion from Colorado University at Denver. Smith is a political science student.
"For me personally, and for the people who share my political beliefs, I do believe it was worth it. However, I'm very concerned about my future, my political future, my career, my education, which I cherish more than anything else," he said.
Smith also says he's sorry if his actions brought embarrassment for University of Colorado Denver.
A background check by 9Wants to Know shows Smith has a clean record.
