St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - St. Louis firefighters and Mayor Slay's office are at odds over revising the current pension plan.

The contentious matter is now before the Board of Aldermen.

About 50 firefighters were at City Hall Friday to present a counter offer to two proposals filed that day and backed by Mayor Slay.

Slay says his plan will reign in escalating pension costs.  The firefighters union calls it a money grab.

Aldermen are being asked to decide on local control of the fire fighters retirement fund, something firefighters don't want.

Both plans would change benefits for new hires.

Board of Aldermen president Lewis Reed says he'll assign the proposals to committee within the next two weeks.
