New Melle, Mo. (KSDK) -- A house fire claimed the life of a teenage girl in New Melle Saturday afternoon.
The fire at the Ryan family home started shortly after noon in the 1500 block of Meinershagan Road.
New Melle Fire Chief Rick Massey says after firefighters put the fire out, they discovered the body of the teenager in her bed. The girl used a wheelchair to get around.
Massey said other members of the Ryan family of five also sustained injuries.
"They were able to escape," said Massey, Saturday night. "And they were transported by St. Charles County Ambulance to St. John's burn unit."
The home is a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
