St. Louis (KSDK) - Rail grinding work will be continuing this week in Illinois. The work will improve ride quality for passengers.
Metro says they will operate trains on a single track between the Belleville and College stations during the process, which will take place after peak commute times each night.
Workers will use special equipment that will produce sparks. Occasionally the sparks may start a small fire along the tracks, but fire suppression crews will follow directly behind the workers, so area residents should not be concerned if they see sparks or small fires.
The work will begin at 8 p.m. each night this week until Friday. MetroLink will resume a normal operating schedule Saturday, February 18, and will begin single track operations again Sunday, February 19.
The rail work is expected to last through the beginning of April.
