St. Charles County (KSDK) - The St. Charles County Sheriff's Office is investigating a domestic dispute in which two people suffered burns.
Police were called to a home in the 1300 block of Carol Drive in unincorporated St. Charles County just after 4:30 p.m. Investigators initially said the husband poured charcoal lighter fluid on himself and his wife and then lit a match.
Lt. Craig McGuire, a spokesman for the St. Charles County Sheriff's Office, told NewsChannel 5 Thursday that the woman was in another room consoling the couple's pre-school age son when she heard her husband screaming in another room.
The woman ran into the other room to discover her husband engulfed in flames. She attempted to put the flames out and was herself burned.
The man, an unidentified 39-year-old, was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries. His wife was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening burns. The couple's child had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
While investigators have not confirmed what caused the fire in the first place, they have said the incident is indeed part of a domestic dispute at the residence.
