East St. Louis, IL (KSDK) - Police are searching for an East St. Louis man accused of battering his teenage girlfriend.
It was a savage attack, which is why police are eager to find him.
The victim's mother wants to use this as a teaching moment for other girls.
"I didn't even recognize her. She did not even look the same. She did not even look like Jasmine," said Bridgette Peete, 18-year-old Jasmine Smith's mother.
She says her daughter has swollen eyes, a busted lip, three broken fingers, a fractured nose, and her ear drums are blown out. She also has bite marks, scratches, and bruises all over her body.
"I thought she was dead. I thought this time he had killed her," said Peete.
She says Jasmine had been dating 22-year-old Douglas Woolfolk for about a year.
"It wasn't the first time that he laid a hand on her but this is the worst time though," said Peete.
She says she would ask her daughter to stop dating him. On Saturday, she finally listened. Peete says her daughter tried to leave, but around 1 a.m. on Monday Woolfolk brought her to "America's Best Inn and Suites" in Cahokia.
The manager says around 1:30 in the afternoon housekeepers noticed loud noise coming from room 236. He says they knocked on the door but, Woolfolk said everything was fine. Shortly thereafter, the manager came to the room and heard Jasmine yelling "help me" so he called police.
Officer Jesse Carmack responded to the scene. He saw the room was in shambles.
"Busted lamp, bed turned over, drawers pulled out, hair scattered, there was a torn undergarment, droplets of blood over the room," said Officer Carmack.
Peete says her daughter is left with physical and mental damage and will need month of counseling.
"Nobody ever has to go through this. You don't have to stay please before it's too late because you can be like my daughter. You can be the next Jasmine or you might be the next John Doe and not make it so please seek out for help," said Peete.
Woolfolk is charged with seven felonies including three counts of aggravated domestic battery.
The United States Marshal's Service is now looking for him.
