(CNN) - Ivy League schools sent their acceptance letters out Thursday, but there are likely lots of disappointed applicants.

The elite schools, including Harvard, Princeton, Cornell and Dartmouth, all reported historically low acceptance rates.

Harvard for example, accepted only 2,032 of the more than 34,000 applicants.

Some of the schools say they were being more selective to avoid the possibility of overcrowding.
