Normandy, Mo (KSDK) -- Glen Echo Country Club in Normandy was home to golf in the 1904 St. Louis Olympics.
The Olympic flame still burns outside the clubhouse and the flag hangs inside.
Glen Echo is the only golf course in the world that can display those Olympic icons because the St. Louis games was the only time golf was a medal event.
"There were Olympic matches with golf prior to and after, but in 1904, it was the only real sanctioned Olympic event where was golf was held, so it was the only one where an actual gold medal was awarded," said Rob Stewart of Glen Echo. "Prior to and after that, they handed out trophies but not a gold medal like you see handed out nowadays in the Olympics."
Canadian George Lyon beat American Henry Egan in a famous match for the 1904 gold.
Golf will become a medal sport again in the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio.
