(KSDK) - It's a busy weekend around downtown St. Louis, and a busy weekend on the interstates surrounding the city.
Lane closures and ramp closures are once again making for headaches.
"It's a mess," says Susan Howard.
She says she had trouble getting into downtown for the Girl Scouts of America 100th anniversary festivities.
"They did give us trouble coming in. One of the exits was closed, so we had to pass it up, get back on the highway and then we got stuck trying to get off the highway."
There's work on I-70 this weekend, but perhaps the biggest traffic headache is on westbound I-64. It's closed from the Poplar Street bridge to 21st Street while crews work to remove and replace the driving surface on the westbound double deck structure.
There was a line of cars throughout the day waiting to hop onto 64 from a detour on Jefferson.
"It's pretty irritating because I'm coming from Lafayette Square all the time and it takes a good two to three stop lights before you can get on {Highway} 40 or so. It's pretty frustrating," says Jeremy Keltner.
Parts of eastbound 64 is also down to one lane.
"...so for the safety of the motorists, and the safety of the workers that are out there because there's not much room to work, it's best that we close it down and get the work done so they're taking chunks of it at a time so they can mill, fix, repave and get open again by monday morning," says MoDot Area Engineer Deanna Venker.
She says eastbound ramps are open so people can get into downtown. Crews are also working to replace bolts that came loose and made for a dodgy drive for some commuters Thursday.
MoDot says they expect this to be the last full closure of 64 westbound for this bridge project.
Traffic is expected to be back to normal Monday morning.
