St. Louis (KSDK) - Charges have been filed against a man police say attempted to rob a Family Dollar store and then barricaded himself inside the store.
Dwayne Jefferson, 19, has been charged with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, and kidnapping.
Authorities say Jefferson walked into the Family Dollar store located in the 4300 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Driver at 12:16 a.m. Wednesday with his face covered and armed with a dark-colored handgun.
Police were called to the scene for a robbery in progress, and say Jefferson was still inside the store when they arrived.
Officers set up a perimeter around the store when they saw Jefferson try to exit through a side door. When he spotted officers, he went back inside and into a storage area.
Jefferson eventually surrendered peacefully to police.
Officers recovered a pistol and a bag filled with cash and cigarettes from the store.
After he was arrested, police determined Jefferson was wanted in Kansas City for multiple business robberies.
