St. Louis (KSDK) - Here in the middle of America Thursday night, Democrats and Republicans watched closely, to see how their vice-presidential candidates performed in the debate.

NewsChannel 5 monitored the people who were monitoring the men they hope will be a moment away from commander-in-chief.
The Contemporary Art Museum hosted a debate watch party for members of both major political parties. There, Democrat Camille Toney reacted to how Vice-President Joe Biden performed.
"I think he's doing well," said Toney. "He's not just conceding to anything Ryan says. He's laughing at what he says, which I think is good because it is kind of funny how they view our nation."
Meanwhile, in St. Charles County Republicans gathered at a debate watch party on Mexico Road in St. Peters. There, St. Charles County Republican Central Committee Chair Jon Bennett handicapped the debate.
Bennett said, "So far they've touched on a lot of issues that weren't really based around the budget. And I'm a little disappointed in that. They're talking more about the executive level positions that have been taken by Barack Obama."
