St. Louis (KSDK) - Sixty students injured in a tornado. That will be the scenario first responders will be practicing for during Wednesday's Midtown Mass Casualty Exercise.
In the disaster scenario, the Missouri National Guard had to imagine a tornado hit the Academy of Environmental Sciences and Math and injured students.
The goal was to improve disaster responses. To achieve the goal, the situation had to be horrific and frantic, so organizers deployed stage make-up and state-of-the-art mannequins to simulate trauma victims.
The patients were taken to SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center emergency room.
Abbott Ambulance Service, ARCH Helicopter, and students and staff of the National Guard C-STARS program participated in the exercise.
