Imperial, MO (KSDK) - On Wednesday morning we received word that a freshman football player died suddenly.
Officials in the Fox C-6 School District say one of Jacob Siebert's relatives called to deliver the news. Jacob had been absent from school since Monday.
He joined the freshman football team shortly after he entered Seckman High School in Imperial.
Fox officials say Jacob attended a short practice last week and he had not complained about any injuries.
Superintendent Diane Critchlow said his family didn't provide many details, but it appears Jacob died somewhere between his home and the hospital.
Critchlow described Jacob as a fun-loving teen.
"It's so tragic and sad. Any time you lose a young child or student, my heart just goes out to those parents. I have two sons who play football and so, it's really sad for me. He's already being missed down at the high school," said Critchlow.
So far a cause of death has not been determined.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Thursday.
A moment of silence will take place at the school Thursday, and grief counselors will be on hand.
