St. Charles, MO (KSDK) - The Missouri Department of Transportation will take down the rest of the westbound Blanchette Bridge on Tuesday.

The remaining steel truss is slated to come down around 10:15 a.m., weather permitting.  More than 4.5 million pounds of steel will drop over a thousand feet into the Missouri River.

Interstate 70 will be closed in both directions from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. while the bridge is blown up.

All eastbound I-70 traffic will be detoured off the interstate at Route 94 and redirected to Route 364, then to I-270, where they can get back to I-70.  All westbound traffic will be redirected off the roadway to I-270 toward Route 370.

The Blanchette Bridge blasting can be seen from the St. Charles riverfront.

A 350-foot section of the Blanchette Bridge was brought down last month.

The Blanchette Bridge blasting is part of a $63 million, year-long project to replace the westbound span.  More information on the project can be found on MoDOT's website.
