UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KSDK) -- The University City council approved a conditional use permit for the Loop Trolley.
The council voted on the recommendation by the plan commission Monday night.
The CUP allows for the installation and operation of the proposed Loop Trolley in the CC - Core Commercial District and PA - Public Activity District.
Voters in University City and St. Louis approved the project in 2007.
Annual operation costs are expected to be around $1.3 million, and will be supported by $600,000 from fares, $500,000 from the Loop Trolley Transportation Development District, and $200,000 from advertising and institutional subsidies.
The trolley should open in mid-2014.
