CLAYTON, Mo. (KSDK) - Wyndown Middle School Choir Teacher Jerry Estes has been selected to receive the prestigious 2013 Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award. Estes was one of 50 music educators across the country who received the award from Yale University's School of Music.
Estes has been teaching at Wyndown Middle School for over 18 years working with sixth to eighth grade choir students. Colleagues say Estes goes above and beyond for his students by composing music that challenges them as well as showcases their strengths.
"Jerry Estes is the epitome of choir teachers. He is multitalented: a teacher, a writer and a composer whose music is published and used by other middle schools throughout the country," said Wyndown Middle School Principle Mary Ann Goldberg.
The symposium on Music in Schools will be held in New Haven, Connecticut June 6-9. The 50 selected educators will participate in workshops, discussions, and attend the closing award banquet.
