St. Louis (KSDK) -- The St. Louis Cardinals activated David Freese and Nick Punto from the 15-day disabled list.
Freese has been sidelined since May 2 by a left hand fracture. Freese, 28, was batting .356 (31-for-87) with 2 homers and 14 RBI in 25 games with the Cardinals before being injured on May 1 when he was hit by a pitch on his left hand. He batted .231 (3-for-13) with a double and RBI in his four games at Memphis during his rehab assignment.
Punto has been out since May 18 with a right forearm strain. He batted .262 (17-for-65) with 4 doubles, 2 triples and 11 RBI in 25 games before going on the disabled list. Punto batted .333 (8-for-24) with a double and 2 RBI in seven games during his rehab assignment at Springfield (AA).
To make room for Freese and Punto on their 25-man roster, the Cardinals optioned infielder Pete Kozma and outfielder Andrew Brown to Memphis (AAA).
