Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings announced Friday that All-Star goaltender Jimmy Howard will miss at least the next two games because of a broken finger.
Howard, who leads the NHL with 32 wins, broke the index finger on his right hand during Thursday's 4-3 shootout victory at Vancouver. The Red Wings said he will be re-evaluated when the team returns to Detroit next week following their four-game road trip.
The club plays in Edmonton on Saturday and Phoenix on Monday to close out the trek.
Howard has a 2.03 goals-against average, a .924 save percentage and five shutouts this season.
The Red Wings have recalled goaltender Joey MacDonald from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League to back up Ty Conklin.
