Copenhagen, Denmark (Sports Network) - Former world No. 1s Caroline Wozniacki
and Jelena Jankovic were among the second-round winners Thursday at the e-Boks
Open.
The top-seeded Wozniacki needed just 67 minutes to dispose of Pauline
Parmentier of France, 6-2, 6-1, while the third-seeded Jankovic had little
trouble in a 6-3, 6-1 rout of Russian wild card Yulia Putintseva.
Wozniacki, who grew up in nearby Odense, improved to 12-0 all-time at her home
event. She won the title in 2010 and 2011, and will next meet another
Frenchwoman in Alize Cornet, who advanced to the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Jankovic entered this week's event on a four-match losing streak, dropping
each of her first matches in Charleston, Miami and Indian Wells after a
semifinal loss at the Malaysian Open. The Serb will next take on fifth-seeded
Kaia Kanepi, who reached the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Second-seeded Angelique Kerber also won Thursday, rallying for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3
triumph against Britain's Anne Keothavong. She's needed three sets to win each
of her first two matches this week and will face sixth-seeded German Mona
Barthel in the quarters on Friday.
The only unseeded player to win Thursday was Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski, who
knocked off fourth-seeded Monica Niculescu of Romania with a 6-7 (6-8), 6-4,
6-1 victory. She'll meet Croatia's Petra Martic in Friday's quarterfinals.
This week's champion will earn $37,000.
