St. Louis (KSDK) - The St. Louis Cardinals have not reached the 50-game mark in the season but have already been bitten by the injury bug.

Cardinals utility player Matt Carpenter was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday due to a right oblique strain, suffered while at the plate in Tuesday night's win against the Padres.

The Cardinals have placed 5 players on the disabled list this week, including Jon Jay, Allen Craig, Kyle McClellan, Lance Berkman and Matt Carpenter. Seven players are currently on the team's disabled list.

The team has also purchased the contract of catcher Steven Hill from the clubs AAA team, Memphis. The 27-year-old has made starts at catcher, first base, left and right fields while playing in Memphis.

Steven Hill will join the team in Wednesday night's series finale against the Padre's.

Hill has seen success in Memphis hitting safely in 11 of his last 13 games with back-to-back games with a home run on Sunday and Monday.

The right-handed hitting Hill hit a home run in his second Major League at-bat against the Cubs last season.
