Marion, IA (Sports Network) - Lauren Doughtie birdied the first playoff hole
Sunday to beat Marissa Steen and win the Ladies Titan Tire Challenge.
Doughtie closed with a three-under 69 to match Sheen at four-under-par 212.
Sheen stumbled to a one-over 73 in the final round.
The 25-year-old Doughtie birdied the fourth, but tripped to a bogey at the
seventh. She birdied the ninth, then faltered to a bogey at 11. Doughtie
birdied the 13th to get to minus-two, then birdied the final two holes to get
in at minus-four.
Sheen had a bogey and eight pars on the front nine. Around the turn, she
birdied the 10th, but bogeyed the next two holes. Sheen got those strokes back
with birdies at 14 and 15, but a bogey at 16 was the difference. She parred
the last two holes to head to the extra session.
In the playoff, Doughtie converted a birdie chance on No. 18, the first extra
hole, to earn her first Symetra Tour victory.
Paola Moreno also closed with a 73 to end one back at minus-three. Aimee Neff
fired a four-under 68, the low round of the day, to soar 42 places into a
share of fourth at even-par 216. She ended alongside Kirby Dreher (70), Calle
Nielson (73) and Cathryn Bristow (75).
Paz Echeverria, who shared the second-round lead with Sheen, struggled to a
nine-over 81 to tumble into a tie for 17th at plus-four.
