San Jose, CA (KSDK) - If it's been since the Beijing Olympics that you've put much thought into the sport of gymnastics and feel a bit puzzled about how the team will be put together, watch this demonstration.
Let's say these puzzle pieces represent great female gymnasts in the United States. 25 of them were invited to compete at the Visa Championships in St. Louis 3 weeks ago.
And only 15 of them moved on the U.S. Olympic Trials here in San Jose. On Sunday, just 5 will be picked to represent the U.S. in London.
One person will be chosen because she's the individual all-around champion from the trials. The rest have to be a perfect fit and are chosen for a variety reasons. So, this gymnast might be consistent and this one because they might need her for the beam.
The pieces of the Olympic puzzle will all be put together on Sunday night by the judges. We'll learn if St. Louisan Sarah Finnegan will be part of it.
