Midway, UT (Sports Network) - Kevin Aylwin and T.J. Vogel will face each other
in Saturday's 36-hole final of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
after the pair both won two matches on Friday.
Aylwin toppled Paul McConnell, 3 & 2 in the quarterfinals, then dispatched
Kyle Beversdorf, 2 & 1 in the semifinals Friday afternoon at Soldier Holly
Golf Course.
Vogel pulled out a 1-up win over Alberto Sanchez Friday morning in the
quarters, then easily handled Derek Ernst, 4 & 3 in the semifinals.
Aylwin, 23, was all-square with Beversdorf through five holes, but won two of
the next three. He never trailed again and a birdie at No. 12 got him a 3-up
cushion.
Beversdorf made things interesting with wins at 13 and 15, but when Aylwin
took the 17th, the match was over and Aylwin was in the final.
Vogel, 21 and a senior the University of Florida, barely gave Ernst a second
to breathe. Vogel won the first two holes, then captured the fifth and eighth
to go 4-up.
Ernst pecked away at the lead, but he trailed by 3-up or worse until Vogel
eliminated him with a win at No. 15.
The 36-hole final will begin at 9:00 a.m. (et) Saturday.
