Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Fourth-seeded American Andy Roddick was a
second-round winner at the Atlanta Open tennis event on Wednesday.
Roddick downed Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 on the hardcourts at
Atlantic Station after the match was postponed several hours due to inclement
weather.
Roddick will play fellow American Michael Russell in the quarterfinals after
the 34-year-old ousted fifth-seeded Kevin Anderson, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4.
Two more countrymen will square off in the next round in Japan's Kei Nishikori
and Go Soeda. The third-seeded Nishikori outlasted Richard Berankis, 6-4, 6-7
(7-9), 6-4, while the eighth-seeded Soeda blitzed Igor Kunitsyn, 6-1, 7-5.
On Thursday, top seeds John Isner and Mardy Fish will see their first action
of the week. Fish beat Isner in the last two all-American finals here.
Isner is fresh off his title in Newport last week.
The winner of this $477,900 tournament will pocket $86,270.
