Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Magdalena
Rybarikova will square off in the Citi Open final after both earned semifinal
victories Friday at the $220,000 tennis event.
Pavlyuchenkova, the tournament's top seed, rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win
over American Vania King on the hardcourts at the William H.G. FitzGerald
Tennis Center to reach her first final of the year. It is the first final of
the year for the 21-year-old Russian, who searching for her fourth career WTA
singles title.
Rybarikova, of Slovakia, was the only unseeded player in to reach the
semifinals. The 23-year-old, who is seeking her third career WTA singles
title, upset third-seeded American Sloane Stephens, 6-3, 6-3, to advance.
The 2012 D.C. champion will collect $37,000.
