Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Stroke play medalist Hyo-Joo Kim cruised to a victory over American Megan Khang in the first round of match play Wednesday at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.

The top-seeded Kim of South Korea breezed to a 7 & 6 triumph at The Country Club.

"My putter was working well today," Kim said through an interpreter. "I'm happy with how I played today. With a match coming up tomorrow, I'll try to get some rest."

She'll next take on Isabelle Lendl, who was a 2 & 1 winner over Whitney Hillier of Australia. Lendl is the daughter of former professional tennis star Ivan Lendl.

Second-seeded Lydia Ko of New Zealand was a 4 & 3 victor over Amy Beth Simanton.

"My long game was fine and my putting felt good," Ko said. "Although I misread a few putts, my stroke was good. In fact, everything was good."

Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn, who lost in the final to Danielle Kang last year, was beaten by Amy Anderson, 1-up. This was a rematch of last year's round of 32, when Jutanugarn won, 1-up.

Jutanugarn held a 1-up lead in the middle of the 17th fairway, but faltered when she put her second shot into a greenside bunker. She missed an 8-foot putt for par and Jutanugarn faced trouble right away on the final hole when she put her tee shot into a bunker. Jutanugarn was able to save for par, but Anderson birdied for the win.

Third-seeded Ariya Jutanugarn earned a 3 & 1 win over Jennifer Yang.

Match play will continue through the 36-hole final on Sunday. Thursday will have the second and third rounds of match play.
