St. Louis (KSDK) -- More than a thousand people are expected to fill the practice facility at Chaifetz Arena at Saint Louis University Friday to celebrate the life of former men's basketball coach Rick Majerus.
The tribute ceremony at 3:30 pm is free and open to the public.
Friends and former players of Coach Majerus are expected to share stories about their time with the legendary coach known for his wit, strategic genius, and voracious appetites for food, literature, and people.
One person who knew Majerus very well was KSDK's Frank Cusumano.
In fact, Cusumano was the first to tell Majerus about the coaching vacancy at SLU. Cusumano insists his role in luring Marjerus to St. Louis was small, but you be the judge.
Click on the video player to watch the segment when Cusumano speaks for the first time publicly about his phone calls to Majerus and SLU president Fr. Lawrence Biondi that culminated with Majerus becoming the Billikens basketball coach.
