Madrid, Spain (Sports Network) - Former world No. 1 star Rafael Nadal will
return to action for an exhibition event in Abu Dhabi at the end of this
month.
The 11-time Grand Slam champion has been sidelined with a left knee injury and
hasn't played since a shocking loss against unheralded Czech Lukas Rosol in
the second round at Wimbledon in June. He missed the Olympic Games, U.S. Open
and season-ending ATP World Tour Finals because of a partial tear of the
patella tendon in the knee.
The 26-year-old Nadal is the reigning French Open champion and has captured
Roland Garros an Open Era-record seven times.
Abu Dhabi is a six-man tournament that will commence December 27 and also
feature current world No. 1 star Novak Djokovic and Olympic and U.S. Open
champion Andy Murray.
