Paris, France (Sports Network) - Eighth seed Klara Zakopalova and American
Christina McHale notched first-round wins Monday at the Open GDF Suez tennis
event.
The Czech veteran Zakopalova came from behind to beat Spaniard Anabel
Medina Garrigues 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 on the indoor hardcourts at Stade Coubertin.
McHale doused French wild card Pauline Parmentier 6-4, 6-1 and is rewarded
with a second-round match against third-seeded French star Marion Bartoli,
who was last year's Paris runner-up to German left-hander Angelique Kerber.
Also on Day 1, German Mona Barthel handled Pole Urszula Radwanska 7-6 (7-1),
6-0.
This week's top seeds are French Open runner-up Sara Errani and former
Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who captured this Parisian tournament two
years ago.
The winner of this $690,000 event will collect $125,000.
