(KSDK Sports) --It seems each year there is one hot rookie all the local media goes gaga over. Last year it was Shelby Miller, a few years before that it was Colby Rasmus.
This year it is Oscar Taveras.
Taveras was recently ranked by USA Today, in their top ten prospects to watch in 2013 and he is the most exciting prospect in the Cardinals' farm system at this moment. Scouts are all but drooling over this kid's skills with both his bat and glove. Last year be used those skills to become one of the most feared hitters in the Texas League while playing center for the Springfield Cardinals.
The odds are Taveras could start 2013 in Memphis.
Manager Mike Matheny said he kept in touch with Taveras during the offseason.
"I think he understood my Spanish," said Matheny. And the skipper says the young prospect should get plenty of playing time and plenty of looks from coaches this spring.
