David Freese put on disabled list; Cardinals call up Ryan Jackson

JUPITER, Fla. (KSDK) - Cardinals third baseman and 2011 World Series MVP David Freese is going on the disabled list with a back injury.

The Cardinals placed Freese on the 15-day DL Tuesday, retroactive to March 13. Freese suffered a lower back strain.

David Freese appeared in 12 spring games prior to going on the disabled list, batting .267 with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs.

The team has optioned left-handed pitcher Sam Freeman to their AAA affiliate in Memphis and recalled infielder Ryan Jackson from the Memphis Redbirds.

At present, the Cardinals' spring roster sits at 31 players.
