(KSDK Sports) -- If home cooking was the cure-all for the slow starting St. Louis Cardinals, then hopefully having an old friend over for dinner won't prevent them from continuing to produce the solid results we saw earlier this week.

Former starter, and popular teammate Kyle Lohse will return to St. Louis tonight as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers.  Lohse who missed most of Spring Training unsigned, joined Milwaukee just two weeks ago.  Lohse makes his return to St. Louis where he pitched for the last five years. This season Lohse allowed five hits and a run while striking out five over six innings of work.

He'll face a Cardinals team coming off two wins in a row, and who have outscored their opponents by 18 runs, and they are tied for first place in the NL Central.

The Cardinals are starting to hit with Matt Carpenter hitting .400, Pete Kozma hitting .294, and Matt Adams hitting .643. The Cardinals opponents are hitting .253 and the St. Louis pitching staff has an ERA of 3.59.

For game one the Cards start Shelby Miller who got the win in his last start. In his first outing Miller allowed four hits and two runs while striking out four over 5.1 innings of work against the Giants in San Francisco.

The Milwaukee Brewers are off to a slow start going 2-6 in their fist eight games. The Brewers are 1-1 on the road, they are in last place in the NL Central, and they have been outscored by their opponents by 17 runs.

As a team the Brewers are hitting .277 with Ryan Braun hitting .500, Jean Segura hitting .458, and Norichika Aoki hitting .389. The Brewers opponents are hitting .316 with the Milwaukee pitching staff having an ERA of 5.47.
