With much of Boston's public transit systems closed as the search for the second suspect in Monday's Boston Marathon attacks continues, the Red Sox' matchup with the Kansas City Royals, scheduled for 7:10 p.m. at Fenway Park on Friday, has been postponed.
A statement from the Red Sox read: "Tonight's Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park has been postponed to support the efforts of law enforcement officers. The Red Sox were scheduled to open a 3-game series against the Kansas City Royals at 7:10 p.m."
The Boston Bruins game game against the Pittsburgh Penguins was also postponed. The team canceled its morning skate earlier today, according to the Associated Press.
Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick has ordered residents of Boston and surrounding towns to shelter in place as police search for suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
