(KSDK) Catcher Yadier Molina and outfielder Carlos Beltran will start for the National League, as five Redbirds were selected for the All-Star Game, to be played at the Mets' Citi Field on July 16.
Joining Molina and Beltran on the N.L. squad is pitcher Adam Wainwright, first baseman Allen Craig, and second baseman Matt Carpenter.
Wainwright (11-5) is unlikely to pitch in the game. At his urging, the Cardinals have juggled around their starting rotation, allowing the righthander to start twice more before the All-Star break, including the final Sunday before the break.
Molina, who is leading the National League with a .345 average but is also nursing a knee injury, would be appearing in his fifth Midsummer Classic, while Beltran (.305, 19 homers) would be appearing in his eight game, and second as a Cardinal.
Wainwright was on the 2010 squad, and Craig (batting. 325 with 68 RBI's) and Carpenter (.319) will be making their All-Star debuts.
