MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Jacob Karam plays quarterback at Memphis. He's also a hero to the kids at the Target House at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
Earlier this week, a video of Karam playing the piano with an 11-year-old girl named Breanna Bercegeay went viral. She is fighting acute myeloid leukemia.
In a wonderful feature story by CBS Sports' Gregg Doyel, Karam says he has visited the Target House, a long-term living facility with 96 two-bedroom apartments that's offered to families of St. Jude patients, about 10 times in the past year.
He said the first time he visited was last year with about 15-20 teammates, but all they got to do was take a tour of the hospital.
"I kept asking, 'When do we get to meet the kids?' " Karam said. "They had to do background checks, things of that nature. I had to come back another day."
He did and continues to do so.
Monday, Karam was on one of his regular visits when he met Breanna. The quarterback was playing the piano when she decided to join him. The two looked up the lyrics to Jessie J's Price Tag and began their beautiful duet.
