Harrisonburg, VA (Sports Network) - James Madison quarterback Jace Edwards has
been given his release from the football program to transfer to another school,
the university announced Tuesday.
Edwards, from Midland, Texas, played in six games, including five starts, as a
redshirt freshman last season. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder completed 62-of-99
pass attempts for 733 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
He was behind incumbent starter Justin Thorpe on JMU's depth chart. The Dukes'
2012 recruiting class included three quarterbacks.
"Jace Edwards has asked for and been granted his release," coach Mickey
Matthews said. "We appreciate everything he has done for the football program
and athletic department at JMU. We wish him nothing but the best in his future
plans."
