Thibodaux, LA (Sports Network) - Hurricane Isaac may be far from Corvallis,
but it has impacted the Oregon State's season-opening football game against
Nicholls State, which was unable to make the long flight due to safety issues.
Officials from both schools decided Wednesday to postpone Saturday's opener
for both teams.
The Nicholls State campus, located in Thibodaux, La., is closed because of
Isaac, which has already caused 650,000 residents state-wide to lose power.
"It became apparent as the day progressed that the safety of Nicholls State's
team and personnel was a primary concern," OSU director of athletics Bob De
Carolis said. "Many of the Colonels' student-athletes and staff are with
family and there is a deepening concern about their safety in returning to
campus."
The game may be made up on December 1 depending on the postseason schedule for
both teams.
Oregon State will now open its season against Wisconsin on Sept. 8, the same
day Nicholls State plays at South Alabama.
